BURLEY, IDAHO – WRECK ON I-84 CAUSES TWO OTHER VEHICLES TO CRASH

Idaho State Police are continuing their investigation into the three-vehicle crash that occurred on November 22nd at 11:03 p.m. The crash took place on I-84 at the intersection of Yale Road, just outside of Burley, Idaho. The three vehicles involved include, a Penske truck driven by a 25-year-old man from Texas, a Hyundai Freightliner driven by a 49-year-old man, and a Wabash semi driven by a 33-year-old man.

At the time of the crash, the 25-year-old driving the Penske was traveling westbound on I-84. As he was driving, he began to veer off to the side, causing him to collide with the guard rail. The vehicle flipped over and came to rest in the eastbound left lane.

The second driver, the 49-year-old man driving the Hyundai, was also traveling westbound when he noticed that the previous car had left notable debris. He attempted to swerve past the debris, but lost control of the vehicle. He left the roadway and came to rest in the median.

The third driver, the 33-year-old semi driver, came upon the crash and steered into the guard rail in an attempt to avoid the scene.

The driver of the Penske and the driver of the Hyundai were transported to a local hospital as a precaution, and the driver of the semi did not sustain serious injuries that would require him to be taken to the hospital.

We hope that both men are able to make a full recovery.

According to the Idaho Department of Transportation’s crash report, 27,679 total motor vehicle crashes occurred in 2023. Idaho’s Traffic Crash Clock indicates that, “A traffic crash occurred every 19 minutes.”

LIABILTIY FOR ACCIDENTS IN IDAHO

No one who gets into or drives a vehicle wants to be involved in an accident. But unfortunately, car accidents happen. Idaho uses a fault-based system to impose liability on the party most at-fault for the accident. A legal principle called “comparative negligence,”  is applied to determine the negligence of all involved parties. If the Plaintiff’s negligence is less than 50%, then she generally can recover damages from the Defendant (or the Defendant’s insurance policy).

Our personal injury attorneys can advise injured persons about their particular case and how Idaho’s legal principles of negligence, causation, and liability apply to it.
