Kidney Damage Due to Accidents.

Although we don’t really consider the kidneys when in a car accident, these small organs located in the small of a person’s back are vital to our welfare. Kidneys are pretty well protected since due to layers of muscle as well as the rib cage, but they can be injured in an automobile accident. When a kidney in injured, it can have terrible implications for a person due to the number of functions a kidney performs.

Trauma

During a car accident a person can be thrown or have objects inflict harm damage on the occupant. For instance, a t-bone type accident can result in the door of the vehicle being pushed into a person. Once the injury has occurred, it should be treated by qualified medical personnel as soon as possible. If left untreated, toxins from the kidneys could travel throughout the person’s body and cause damage to other organs and bodily functions.

Kidney Trauma Symptoms

Kidney trauma can be identified through some of the following symptoms. However, do not rely on this list. See your physician immediately if you think you may have sustained harm in this area.

  • Pale skin
  • Back pain
  • Clamminess
  • Blood in the urine
  • Drowsiness
  • Decreased responsiveness
  • Frequent or urgent urination
  • Fever
  • Sweating

Listen to what your body is telling you after an accident. Get medical help and advice. Your doctor can identify kidney problems and other harm you may have sustained. To delay treatment for any reason can have disastrous effects on your future. Your doctor can do X-Rays, electronic scans, urinalysis, and other tests to determine whether you have suffered an injury to your kidneys. Listen to the expert and his or her advice on treatment. His or her treatment may include:

  • Bed rest
  • Dietary restrictions
  • Close observation by doctors
  • Placing a stent
  • Medications
  • Removing the kidney
  • Surgery
