Last Friday, on January 31st, two semis and a vehicle got into a collision on the eastbound side of I 84. The crash took place at mile post 38, at about 9:38 a.m.
The first semi, a 2017 Kenworth driven by a 60-year-old man from Simi Valley, California, was traveling east when it veered and struck the side of the second vehicle. This car, a 208 Audi Q5 driven by a 57-year-old woman from Boise with a single passenger, was sent into the median before being struck by the third vehicle, a 2022 Cascadia semi driven by a 53-year-old man from Cadiz, Kentucky.
Both the driver and passenger of the Audi sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. All of these individuals were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
We hope that the injured individuals will be able to make a full recovery.
According to the Idaho Department of Transportation’s crash report, 27,679 total motor vehicle crashes occurred in 2023. Idaho’s Traffic Crash Clock indicates that, “A traffic crash occurred every 19 minutes.”
LIABILTIY FOR ACCIDENTS IN IDAHO
No one who gets into or drives a vehicle wants to be involved in an accident. But unfortunately, car accidents happen. Idaho uses a fault-based system to impose liability on the party most at-fault for the accident. A legal principle called “comparative negligence,” is applied to determine the negligence of all involved parties. If the Plaintiff’s negligence is less than 50%, then she generally can recover damages from the Defendant (or the Defendant’s insurance policy).
